Reading manager Mark Bowen is hopeful they can ‘push the deal’ to sign Ovie Ejaria from Liverpool after some complications, as he told Get Reading.

As reported by Get Reading, the Championship club were meant to sign the Liverpool academy product on a permanent basis this summer following his loan spell last season.

It’s reported that there was an agreement for that to happen, but financial issues at the Madejski Stadium have complicated matters and delayed the deal going through.

Bowen, who left Ejaria out of Reading’s pre-season win over Gillingham yesterday, shared that he’s been told there will be more ‘clarity’ on the matter by this time next week.

“We’re hoping to get something done – again it’s all wrapped around the financial fair play,” said Bowen.

“I’m being told by this time next week we should have a lot more clarity on it and we can push the deal that was in his contract about coming on loan with a view to signing is still in place and we’re just waiting for things around FFP to enable that to him.

“He’s been training with us all week but as he’s not a Reading player, he didn’t want to play in case he got injured. Hopefully, we can get something done next week.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

From Reading’s perspective, it would be a bitter blow if they are unable to sign Ejaria because, along with the likes of John Swift, he is one of their best players.

It will be interesting to see what stance the Premier League champions take if the Royals are unable to push forward with their previous agreement.

If it’s a case of Liverpool having to find more suitors for Ejaria’s signature and they may find that a number of Championship clubs would be keen to take him on, such is his quality.

Given his directness, quick feet in the final third and ability to carry the ball then he is more than capable of playing for a team pushing for promotion. But Reading will be hoping to be that team.
