Who doesn’t love a bit of devillish humour and detective work?

Netflix fans certainly can’t get enough as the long-running comedy-drama Lucifer has just returned to our screens for its highly-anticipated fifth season.

The stakes are far higher this time around as the Lord of Hell is joined in our world by his twin brother, Michael, something that looks to tear a rift between Lucifer and Chloe.

The pair’s strained relationship takes centre stage in episode 3 of the new season when the duo has another murder to solve, this time it’s a TV writer by the name of Matt Owens.

Surprisingly, Lucifer reveals that he knows the poor victim but have we viewers ever met him before?

Lucifer season 5 on Netflix

Part 1 of Lucifer season 5 arrived on Netflix on August 21st, 2020.

The new batch of episodes raises the stakes to their highest yet as Lucifer’s vile twin brother, Michael, travels to our world when Lucifer has to briefly return to hell.

In the process, the evil twin looks to tear down everything Lucifer had built up, including his relationship with Detective Chloe Decker, something that is brought to centre stage in episode 3.

Episode 3: ¡Diablo!

The third episode of Lucifer season 5 sees the lovable Lord of Hell return to our world to find that Michael’s meddling has soured Chloe’s opinion of him.

He vows to make things up to her and joins her on their latest murder investigation.

Strangely, however, Lucifer knows the victim in question, a TV writer by the name of Matt Owens who just happens to have created a show that is awfully similar to Lucifer’s own life.

Who is Matt Owens?

It is revealed in episode 3 that Matt Owens was little more than a hopeful TV writer when he first met Lucifer, but after doing Matt a favour, the pair regularly met up and talked for hours.

Matt is now the creator and showrunner of a series called ¡Diablo! (or Lieutenant Diablo) which, as we see, is a TV recreation of Lucifer’s own life which the narcissistic Lucifer learns is a result of those long conversations with Matt.

Despite Lucifer knowing the character of Matt Owens, we viewers have never met him before.

Although, while the actor playing Matt Owens’ corpse in episode 3 is not named in the credits, we have a sneaking suspicion that he could well be played by Lucifer’s own developer, Tom Kapinos, although this is unconfirmed.

Lucifer season 5 part 1 is available to stream now on Netflix after releasing on August 21st, 2020.
