Leeds United’s reported quest to sign Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea has just become harder.

Interest from Leeds United

The Times reported earlier this week of interest from Leeds in Chelsea striker Batshuayi.

According to The London Evening Standard, the Whites have have registered interest in the 26-year-old Belgium international striker.

Even if Chelsea do not demand a lot in transfer fees for the striker, given his weekly salary of £100,000 – as reported by Spotrac.com – it is going to be difficult for Leeds to sign him.

True, the Whites have won automatic promotion to the Premier League, but the West Yorkshire club are unlikely to spend a lot in transfer fees or wages.

Atalanta join race

Now, Leeds are facing competition for Batshuayi from Italian club Atalanta, who are interested in the striker, according to TMW.

It has been reported by the Italian news outlet that Atalanta are looking at the Chelsea striker as a potential replacement for Duvan Zapata, who is wanted by Juventus.

Leeds United or Atalanta?

Atalanta are a rising force in Italy and will play in the Champions League again next season after finishing third in Serie A in 2019-20.

The temptation to play in Europe’s premier club competition and the potential to challenge for the Scudetto could sway Batshuayi away from Leeds to Atalanta.

Marcelo Bielsa’s future

Meanwhile, The Sun has claimed that Bielsa will sign a new two-year contract worth £8 million per year.

Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear is confident about the Argentine committing his future to the Whites, as quoted in The Sun, and so is the club’s owner Andrea Radrizzani, as quoted in The Yorkshire Evening Post.
