Talks between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Braga have broken down after the Premier League outfit tried to snatch Paulinho for less than his £25 million price-tag, according A Bola.

As you might imagine, it doesn’t go down too well when you attempt to barter down the price-tag of your transfer target at the eleventh hour.

Wolves were closing in on the signing of the prolific Paulinho but it seems that the Europa League quarter-finalists are now, if not back to square one, then certainly going in the wrong direction.

Reports in Portugal claim that Braga have ‘frozen’ the negotiations as they were less than impressed with Wolves’s attempts to lower the 27-year-old’s price-tag.

As far as the Taca de Liga winners are concerned, it is £25 million or nothing.

Paulinho enjoyed the best season of his career in 2019/20, scoring 25 goals in all competitions while helping Braga secure a top three finish and win their first trophy in four years.

It remains to be seen whether Wolves are willing to return to the negotiating table and offer the £25 million required to bring Paulinho to England.

The Black Country giants will be determined not to be held over a barrel but, as Nuno himself made clear after last week’s defeat to Sevilla, reinforcements are an absolute must if Wolves are to become regulars in the latter stages of continental competition.

Raul Jimenez remains the only senior centre-forward in Nuno’s squad and he made a staggering 55 appearances last season.
