Norwich City are hoping to sign £5 million-rated West Ham United striker Jordan Hugill but Queens Park Rangers have an ace up their sleeve, according to the Standard.

QPR fans have no choice but to take the rough with the smooth when it comes to the future of a striker who enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Loftus Road last season.

While West Ham will not stand in the way of their £8 million forgotten man if he wants to join the Londoners on a permanent basis, any deal is likely to see QPR’s star man Eberechi Eze go in the other direction.

That is the ‘rough’ we were talking about.

And unless Norwich have a player themselves that West Ham are desperate to sign, then the Anglian outfit look destined to miss out on a striker who hit the target 15 times in the Championship in 2019/20.

West London Sport claimed on Tuesday night that the recently-relegated Canaries had entered talks over a deal that would see the former Preston and Middlesbrough frontman move to Carrow Road for a reduced fee of £5 million.

When you consider that Norwich finished bottom of the Premier League with the lowest goals tally in the division (26 in 38 games), then bringing in a striker with a proven track record at Championship level would undoubtedly represent a good bit of business.

Especially with Teemu Pukki looking a pale imitation of his once irrepressible self since the turn of the year.

But the presence of Eze gives QPR a clear advantage in the battle for Hugill’s signature.
