Babs returned to BBC One on August 18th and introduced viewers to young Barbara Windsor actress Jaime Winstone but just what do we know about her?

Thanks to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, we’re starting to see more and more repeats appear among the TV schedules.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it means that the BBC and ITV are bringing some of their biggest and best programmes back onto our screens.

The latest old arrival, if you like, on BBC One is the Barbara Windsor biopic, Babs, which details the life of the former Carry On and EastEnders star.

In the film, however, Windsor is played by a whopping four actresses, as well as appearing in a cameo herself but just what do we know about the actress who plays Young Babs, Jaime Winstone?

Babs on BBC One

Babs first aired on BBC One back on May 7th, 2017 which coincided with Barbara Windsor’s 80th birthday.

The film, which reappeared on our screens on August 18th, 2020, explores the life and career of the national treasure that is Barbara Windsor.

We join Babs as she goes from a young girl with dreams of becoming an actress and grows into a star of the screen in the Carry On films as well as a mainstay on the soap opera, EastEnders.

Who is Jaime Winstone?

Jaime Winstone takes on the role of young Barbara Windsor, the actress just starting to make a name for herself in the industry especially after appearing in the famed Carry On films.

Like Barbara Windsor herself, Jaime Winstone was born in London and with a birthday of May 6th, 1985, is currently 35 years old.

Jaime Winstone has arguably been on the path to becoming an actress since she was born, given the fact that her father is Ray Winstone, an actor of over 130 film and TV roles himself.

Jaime is one of three daughters in the Winstone family and her older sister, Lois, is also an actress as well as a singer.

Jaime Winstone: Films and TV

Jaime Winstone made her acting debut at the age of 18 in the 2004 film Bullet Boy.

Since then, the 35-year-old has gone on to appear in almost 50 acting roles according to IMDb.

Jaime Winstone’s most prominent roles have come in the likes of Kidulthood, Made in Dagenham and 2018’s Tomb Raider.

Winstone reportedly has three projects currently in post-production including the series The Barking Murders as well as the films Knuckledust and A Brixton Tale so it likely won’t be long before she’s back on our screens.

Until then, Babs is available to stream now on BBC iPlayer until September 16th after the biopic aired on August 18th, 2020.
