Why was Bill Baptist fired?
Bill Baptist, a freelance photographer for the Houston Rockets, was fired after uploading an offensive post onto Facebook, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The post in question was a Joe Biden campaign logo, edited to say ‘Joe and the Hoe.’ The word ‘hoe’ referring to Joe Biden’s Vice Presidential pick, Kamala Harris.
The word ‘hoe’ is a derogatory word aimed at women, making the post deeply offensive.
How did the NBA react?
Bill Baptist was fired and asked to leave the Orlando Bubble, where the NBA is located this season due to Covid-19.
The NBA issued a statement: “The photographer is an independent contractor and his services are no longer being used in Orlando.”
Bill himself issued an apology to a local Houston television station. He said:
“I deeply regret posting on my Facebook page a phrase that I saw and copied from others as a sample of some people’s reactions to Biden’s selection of Senator Harris as his choice for VP.”
“The phrase I posted does not reflect my personal views at all. I should not have been so insensitive to post the statements by others. I sincerely apologize to all of those who have rightfully been offended and I have taken the post down from my FB page. It was a horrible mistake on my part.”
