According to Brazilian newspaper Globo Esporte, Leeds United have made their first bid for Basel striker Arthur Cabral.

It’s claimed that Marcelo Bielsa has specifically asked for Cabral to be signed, so Leeds have firmed up their interest with a bid.

Leeds are thought to have offered around €18million (£16.3million) for Cabral, but Basel want around €20million (£18million).

Leeds’ offer is around £13.5million up front and the rest in add-ons, whilst Cabral is described as being ‘excited’ about playing in the Premier League.

Cabral, 22, was a star for Basel this past season, smashing 18 goals and six assists in 39 games for the Swiss side.

The Brazilian was only on loan from Palmeiras, but they have now turned his move permanent for around €4million (£3.6million), meaning they could make a swift profit.

Agent Paulo Pitombeira is thought to have a decent relationship with Bielsa, having supplied him with Thiago Mendes at Lille in 2017.

Cabral is a big and physical centre forward, but he also possesses outstanding feet in link-up play and technique with his finishes, whilst he isn’t a slouch across the ground either.

Bielsa has had success with target men like Fernando Llorente and Andre-Pierre Gignac in the past, and may now view Cabral as a player who can provide Leeds with a new dimension.
