According to The Scottish Daily Mail (15/02, back page), Celtic have been told they must fork out £2million to take Shane Duffy on loan.
It’s claimed that the Brighton and Hove Albion defender has already held talks with boss Neil Lennon about a move to Parkhead.
However, Brighton want £2million just for Celtic to take him on loan for the season, which means a deal is now described as ‘distant’.
Duffy is keen on the move having grown up supporting Celtic, but the two clubs will now have to thrash out a compromise.
West Ham United, West Bromwich Albion and Burnley are all keen on Duffy too, meaning Celtic face a real battle.
Brighton won’t let Duffy go cheaply given that he still has three years left on his contract, but he is slipping down the pecking order.

The 28-year-old may now be behind Adam Webster, Lewis Dunk and new signing Joel Veltman at centre back, whilst Ben White has returned from Leeds United.
A move to Celtic would surely give Duffy the chance to play first-team football for his boyhood club, but the Bhoys must now decide whether a £2million loan is value for money.
