Tech giant Apple has banned Fortnite from the App Store, many players are worried that there will be serious consequences for the game being removed from iPads and iPhones.
The rift between Epic Games and Apple has been ongoing for a long time. Apple requires all third parties to pay 30% of all online transactions in return for being able to sell digital products on the App Store.
In an effort to counter this, Epic Games attempted a workaround that would allow players to pay the company directly on iPad and iPhone, skipping the App Store entirely. Apple wasn’t happy about this.
Is Fortnite getting banned on iPad?
At present, Fortnite is banned on all Apple mobile devices – iPad and iPhone. However, the game is still very much playable on Android tablets and phones, as well as on consoles (Xbox One, PS4, and Switch) as well as on PC.
As long as you play on one of the approved non-Apple devices, including Android tablets, it will still be possible to play Fortnite. If your only device is an Apple product, bad news: you can’t play right now.
Update: Fortnite has now also been removed from the Google Play store, although it can still be downloaded directly from Epic Games.
With Apple and Epic Games continuing their feud, it’s unlikely that the matter will be solved any time soon. Apple’s Fortnite ban is a power move, and it remains to be seen how Epic responds.
How long will Fornite be removed from the App Store?
It’s not yet known how long this ban will last. Apple’s decision to ban Fortnite is going to make a big difference to the way players can access the game on mobile. That said, this may only be a temporary ban if the two companies are able to reach an agreement.
At present, nobody looks ready to back down, so it’s worth assuming that you won’t be able to play Fortnite on iPad or iPhone any time soon.
While Apple has removed Fortnite from the App Store, the game isn’t banned entirely. The game can still be played, so long as you have access to a non-Apple device.
