Rapid Vienna midfielder Dejan Ljubicic has admitted that there are a number of clubs looking to sign him amid reported interest from Rangers, Celtic and Southampton, while speaking to Kronen Zeitung.
One of the biggest teams in Austrian football have already lost one key player this summer, with captain Stefan Schwab joining PAOK on a free transfer.
According to the Mail in July, another highly-rated midfielder could be following in Schwab’s footsteps with Rangers, Celtic, Southampton and Brentford eyeing a bargain £2 million deal.
Rapid appear to be on the charm offensive, handing Ljubicic the armband during a recent pre-season friendly as they look to convince the 22-year-old to commit his future to the Bundesliga runners-up.
That could be easier said than done, however, with Premier League and European football on offer elsewhere.
“There are some interested parties,” Ljubicic says. “But my agent will take care of that.
“I only think of Rapid, I appreciate everything about the club. (Wearing the captain’s armband was) an honor, something special.”
Southampton are expected to lose an influential skipper of their own today with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on the verge of joining Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.
Ljubicic, a defence midfielder blessed with boundless energy reserves and a fine range of passing, certainly looks like a man capable of filling a Hojbjerg-shaped hole in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s starting XI.
