Liverpool fans have had a lot to celebrate about over the last few weeks and some of them are probably still celebrating. The Reds finally won the Premier League and nobody can argue against them deserving it.
The focus now for Jurgen Klopp will be to retain that title and the new season isn’t too far away. Liverpool, as good as they are, will have to strengthen to maintain the gap from other potential contenders.
The Reds have been linked with a number of players over the last few weeks but none more so than Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara.
The Spaniard reportedly wants to join the Premier League champions and Liverpool fans would love to see the Spanish midfield magician play for them next season.
However, Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has revealed the Reds’ latest stance on signing Thiago and Liverpool fans might just be left a tad disappointed.
He told Sky Sports: “They (Liverpool supporters) want their club to make signings and the one name that really excites them is Thiago Alcantara, the Bayern Munich midfielder.”
“Our information is, he has made it clear that he wants to leave Bayern, he’s only got a year left on his contract, he wants a new challenge, he wants to play in the Premier League and he would absolutely love to move to Liverpool and play under Jurgen Klopp.”
“Klopp thinks he is an absolutely fantastic player, he has sung his praises on numerous occasions before, but our information is that Liverpool are not looking to strengthen their midfield this summer, and there is zero indication that it is going to change.”
Right decision by Liverpool?
Solhekol goes on to say that if the situation regarding Liverpool’s midfield changes, the Reds will look to make a move for Thiago, but it is highly unlikely now that any of their current midfielders will leave the club.
Jurgen Klopp currently has Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James MIlner, Takumi Minamino and young Curtis Jones at his disposal.
That’s more than enough midfielders for the Reds boss but Thiago would certainly have been an upgrade over a few of them. However, Liverpool’s midfield is still brilliant and even without the Spaniard, they can go on to have another brilliant campaign in the upcoming season.
Liverpool fans have been dreaming of signing the Bayern Munich man for a few weeks now. The Spaniard could have become a fan favourite at Anfield but at this moment, he isn’t in Klopp’s summer plans ahead of next season.
