Newcastle United fans have been left gutted after Ciro Immobile suggested that they were interested in him to Corriere Dello Sport.
Newcastle’s potential new owners had some ambitious transfer targets lined up, and the £50 million Lazio forward (90 Minutes) was on their radar.
“During the period in which there was talk of the possible purchase of Newcastle by the Sheikh’s fund they called my agent, Alessandro Moggi,” Immobile said.
And the comments have done little to ease the disappointment and frustration around Newcastle at the potential takeover’s collapse.
Immobile would have been a hugely exciting addition to Newcastle’s squad.
However, any hope of that transfer taking place is now surely over, while Mike Ashley remains at the helm, and Newcastle fans are devastated about the news.
Immobile scored 36 goals for Lazio over the past campaign, making him one of the most fearsome strikers across European football.
The 30-year-old could have enhanced Newcastle’s scoring threat considerably if he had moved to St. James’ Park.
But it seems that Newcastle may have to look at far cheaper striking options, with Steve Bruce only having a limited budget to spend now.
