The 28-year-old Germany international is the first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal, but he missed the final games of the past season due to knee injury.
The Sun has claimed that the Gunners are seeking a second opinion on the injury, and want to asses the ligament strain.
The North London outfit want to seek further clarification and the time it will take for the German to recover, and they may then look to sign a new goalkeeper, according to the report in the British tabloid.
Chance for Emiliano Martinez?
Emiliano Martinez did well when Leno was injured, and the Argentine goalkeeper also played in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.
The 27-year-old has shown what he is capable of, and there is no doubt that if Leno misses the start of next season, then he will be able to step up, just as he did in the final weeks of the 2020-21 campaign.
Arsenal need not look for a new goalkeeper. After all, Leno will recover at some point, and the Gunners will end up with more players than needed for between the posts.
Perhaps the Gunners should look at promoting a young goalkeeper from within the ranks.
