According to Calciomercato, Fiorentina have made contact with the representatives of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira over a summer move.

The Uruguay international has been heavily linked with an exit from Arsenal.

Torreira became an instant hit under former manager Unai Emery after arriving in 2018. However, under his successor Mikel Arteta, the midfielder has fallen out of favour.

The 24-year-old last completed a full 90 minutes for the Gunners in January, while in his last start at Aston Villa he was substituted off at half-time.

A recent report from Tuttosport claimed that Torino were keen on him.

But now the latest reports from Italian editorial Calciomercato say Torino’s Serie A rivals Fiorentina have made the first steps in their bid to sign the Arsenal man.

The Tuscan club has reportedly proposed a four-year deal worth around £43,000 per week.

Fiorentina are now awaiting the player’s approval before attempting to thrash out a deal with Arsenal which may not be easy in the current market.

The north London club signed Torreira for £27 million from Sampdoria two years ago.

The global health crisis has impacted finances across Europe. Moreover, Italian clubs aren’t blessed with Premier League riches while Fiorentina are likely to have a limited budget.

Arsenal have a bloated squad and need to make changes this summer. Torreira, meanwhile, seeks a return to Italy with AC Milan also cited as a potential suitor.
