Celtic manager Neil Lennon has suggested to BBC Sport that a deal to sign Albian Ajeti from West Ham United may not happen.

Lennon has said that Celtic are in talks with West Ham over the signing of Ajeti, who struggled to make an impact at the Hammers this past season.

According to Sky Sports, the Switzerland international striker has decided to move to the Hoops on a season-long loan deal.

The report added that if talks continue to progress, then a season-long loan deal could be finalised by early next week, with the Glasgow giants having the option to make it permanent in the summer of 2021 for £5 million.

While Lennon has said that talks are going on with the 23-year-old striker, he has admitted that a transfer may not happen.

Lennon told BBC Sport: “I’m not aware of how close we are to doing that. It may or may not happen, as is the case with a lot of deals. We’re trying to negotiate.”

Celtic transfer likely?

While one can understand why Lennon does not want to get too far ahead, it does seem like that Ajeti will be at Celtic next season.

With talks going well, as reported by Sky Sports, the Celtic fans should expect to see the 23-year-old striker at the club this month.

Meanwhile, St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin has praised Celtic despite missing out on Vakoun Bayo.

Goodwin has said that he wanted to sign Bayo, but, according to The Glasgow Evening Times, he is bound for Toulouse.

The St. Mirren boss told The Glasgow Evening Times: “We made it clear to them at the beginning of pre-season that if the player became available again we would certainly be keen to try and make something work and, in fairness to Celtic, they were very open and honest about the situation and told us there was interest from abroad.

“We knew it was a long shot but if you don’t ask the question you will never know. The player has decided to go to France and we wish him well.”
