Neil Lennon has confirmed that Celtic are in talks with Steven Fletcher with regards to him joining the Parkhead club this summer.
Fletcher is a free agent after being released by Sheffield Wednesday.
The 33-year-old was earning £32,000 per week down South but a report from The Scottish Sun intimated that he would jump at the chance to join Celtic, even if it was for less money than he could get in England.
The Hoops already have Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths, Patryk Klimala and Vakoun Issouf Bayo as striking options during their 10-in-a-row bid, but it appears as if Lennon wants another experienced number nine.
Lennon has confirmed to Sky Sports News that although the club are negotiating with the Scotland international, but that a deal is still far away as things stand.
He said: “We are in talks with his representatives but nothing is confirmed one way or the other. We have been linked with a few so it’s obviously an area we want to add in.”
If Fletcher does join, it’s almost certain that Bayo will leave in either a short-term or long-term capacity.
That’s because the big Ivorian is a similar player to the former Sunderland and Marseille hitman, and it just makes no sense for Lennon to have both at Celtic.
And if we’re honest, Fletcher is the much better option in regards to a plan-b for Griffths and Edouard.
