Reported Celtic target Brenden Aaronson is a ‘unique’ talent due to his outstanding technical skills, Philadephia Union’s sporting director Ernst Tanner has told the Inquirer.
Considering the 19-year-old MLS sensation idolises Luka Modric and has been compared across the Atlantic to Kai Havertz, you don’t need us to tell you that he is no ankle-snapping enforcer in the Scott Brown mould.
Aaronson has been a revelation in 2020, his defence-splitting passes making him a standout figure in American soccer even before he reaches adulthood.
According to MLSSoccer, his piercing through-balls and floating, almost ethereal, style has caught the eye of Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, not to mention a host of Bundesliga clubs.
Not that Tanner is surprised to see scouts flocking, virtually at least, to Subaru Park.
“Brenden is quite a unique player, and that’s the reason why so many people are very interested in him at this moment,” Tanner says.

“If you see his individual creativity, if you see his first touch, which is always going forward, if you see his passing ability and his vision of the game…”
Celtic are not exactly short of forward-thinking, dynamic central midfielders however.
Olivier Ntcham and Tom Rogic – arguably the two most naturally gifted play-makers in Scotland – could not force their way into Neil Lennon’s starting XI for Sunday’s 5-1 thrashing of Hamilton Academical.
Is there room at Parkhead for New Jersey’s answer to Havertz?
