Leeds United are closing in on the £15 million signing of Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
After Ben White broke the hearts of grown men everywhere in West Yorkshire with one, gushing Instagram goodbye, the Premier League newcomers are facing up to reality.
They must somehow replace a man who, during that sensational loan spell at Elland Road, looked every inch a centre-half destined to reach the very top of the game.
Fortunately, Leeds are not short of alternative options with Marcos Senesi and Lucas Martinez Quarta tipped to link up with fellow Argentine Marcelo Bielsa next season.
But it seems that Leeds will instead prioritise a defender with Premier League experience under his belt; even if he never secured the regular first-team football he was looking for in north London.
TMW reports that the Whites are closing in on what would be a £15 million deal for Foyth, with optimism growing in Thorp Arch that the youngster will sign on the dotted line before the end of the transfer window.
Speaking to TYC Sports last week, Foyth admitted that the ‘dream’ was to stay in Europe after two years at Tottenham, ruling out a return to Argentina with Boca Juniors.
Interestingly, Bielsa has wanted to sign the former Estudiantes prospect for three years now, having tried and failed to sign Foyth during his time in France with Lille (CieloSports).
