Tottenham Hotspur appear set to miss out on Sergio Reguilon, with ESPN suggesting that he is close to joining Chelsea now.
Tottenham made contact with Real Madrid over signing Reguilon earlier this summer, with Jose Mourinho’s side having an interest in the left-back.
However, with Ben Davies in good form, Tottenham appear to have decided against making a move for Reguilon now.
And that has allowed Chelsea to edge closer to completing a deal to bring the Spaniard to the Premier League.
Chelsea are thought to be close to agreeing a £22.5 million move for the full-back, which takes one of Tottenham’s potential options off the table.
A blow for Spurs?
Reguilon spent the past season at Sevilla, and he could have made an appealing addition to Tottenham’s squad.
The 23-year-old looked one of the brightest defensive prospects in Spain over the past campaign, where his performances caught the eye.
Reguilon is said to be keen to test himself in the Premier League, so if Spurs had pushed on with a move they may have had a chance to sign him.
But the pressure will now on Davies to keep up his strong form towards the end of the season throughout next campaign.
