Leeds United linked striker Cristhian Stuani is valued at a bargain £4.5 million, with Girona’s sporting director admitting to TV3 that the striker ‘could leave’ Catalonia this summer.

Five years after Victor Orta brought a hard-working Uruguayan to Middlesbrough, a reunion could be on the cards at a Leeds side with the smell of champagne lingering in their nostrils.

Marcelo Bielsa’s free-wheeling Whites secured their long-awaited return to the Premier League in July and attention has now turned, with the flares fading and the celebrations settling, to the transfer market.

If 90Min is to be believed, Orta is once again eyeing up a deal for a striker who, at the age of 33, is in the form of his life.

Stuani has gone from solid at Middlesbrough to spectacular in Spain.

With 29 goals in 36 games this season, he has almost single-handedly fired Girona into contention for a promotion of their own ahead of a play-off semi-final with mega-bucks Almeria.

“He could leave if we don’t go up (to La Liga),” sporting director Quique Carcel admits.

“Although he is happy here and could stay, we have to consider many things and talk about them all.”

Mercado da Bola reported over the weekend that Girona would be willing to listen to offers of around £4.5 million.

Stuani produced a remarkable 21 La Liga goals in 2017/18 and 19 in 2018/19, although even a career-best run of form was not enough to save Girona from relegation.
