Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has praised Leeds United-owned striker Ryan Edmondson for his performance against Rangers, as quoted on the club’s official website.

Edmondson joined Aberdeen on loan from Leeds in the summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old striker made his debut for the Dons in their Scottish Premiership game against Rangers at home on Saturday afternoon.

The teenager did not start the match, but he came on as a substitute in the 65th minute.

McInnes was impressed with the display produced by Edmondson, and has raved about the teenager.

McInnes told Aberdeen’s official website: “I thought when Edmondson came on that he gave us a bit more psychically and it annoyed their centre backs a bit more with his running power and his physical size. Obviously, he helped us get up the pitch a bit more. “

Promising start

Edmondson is only 19 years of age and does not have much experience of first-football team.

The teenager’s performance on his debut for Aberdeen was very encouraging indeed, and it is just the start.

Perhaps in the coming weeks and months, Edmondson will establish himself as an important player in the starting lineup.

Meanwhile, Southampton midfielder Stuart Armstrong is looking forward to playing against Leeds next season.

The Whites will play in the Premier League in 2020-21, having won automatic promotion from the Championship this season.

Armstrong told The Southern Daily Echo: “I remembered being in the stands watching the game to then be playing on the pitch, it was a really strange feeling.

“But I think next season, with them coming up, it will be even stranger going there to play, especially thinking back to all those years ago when I used to sit in the stands with my dad and brother. I’m sure my family will want to come to that one.”
