Mediatonic’s Fall Guys is a wacky free-for-all, so potential players are desperate to know whether the game will feature couch co-op local multiplayer via a split screen mode.
The Battle Royale game allows up to 60 players to connect together online as they race through colourful obstacle courses. This twist on the formula popularised by PUBG and Fortnite is expected to win over large audiences, not least because it is free for PlayStation Plus subscribers at launch.
While the developers behind the game are eager to include split screen couch co-op in Fall Guys, it seems that some challenges behind the scenes have made this difficult to achieve.
Does Fall Guys support couch co-op split screen multiplayer?
Bad news: at launch, Fall Guys does not support local multiplayer, and there is no couch co-op split screen mode.
However, according to a recent Reddit AMA, the team at Mediatonic does recognise the appeal of this mode, and is hoping to bring it to the game at some point in the future.
According to Mediatonic’s Joe Walsh:
“We’d love to have split screen but at some point during development we had to cut it in order to get the game finished in time! It’s a HUGE undertaking from so many disciplines and we decided it would be better not to spread ourselves too thin and make sure the game we delivered is up to par.
“That said, you never know what might come post launch! I’d certainly love to play split screen and it gets requested TONS by the community.”
When will Fall Guys get local multiplayer?
It’s clear that adding couch co-op split screen local multiplayer to Fall Guys is a top priority for the team at Mediatonic. From the sounds of it, the decision to cut this feature from the launch build of the game was difficult for the developers.
As such, it’s likely that this will be one of the first features to be added into the game post-launch – provided, of course, fans are vocal enough in their desire to play Fall Guys in split screen mode.
Whatever the future holds for Fall Guys, here’s hoping that the game will receive a local multiplayer couch co-op update sooner rather than later.
