According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa want to sign Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy in a £5million swoop this summer.
It’s claimed that McCarthy has just one year left on his deal, and Villa are hoping to take advantage with a cheap deal.
Villa allegedly feel that they lacked experience in the Premier League this past season, and are relaxing their policy on not signing players over 28.
McCarthy is one of their top targets, believing that he can add some Premier League know-how having played in the top flight with Wigan Athletic, Everton and now Palace.
The 29-year-old Ireland international managed to make 33 Premier League appearances this season, bouncing back from injury hell at Everton.
Palace would surely hate to lose McCarthy, and it’s bizarre to see claims that his deal at Selhurst Park ends ext summer.
When McCarthy made his move to South London, it was stated that he actually signed a three-year deal, meaning his contract would end in 2022.
Unless the deal was actually shorter and never announced as such, Villa may find it difficult to purchase the all-action midfielder at such a cheap price.
