Ben Foster took to Twitter yesterday to express his disappointment at Watford’s relegation last week, but he was very honest in praising Aston Villa in their effort to stay up.

Dean Smith’s side recorded eight points from their final four matches, as Foster stated ‘fair play to Villa’ in getting it right when it mattered most.

Following Foster’s tweet, a number of fans from Watford, Villa and his former club, West Brom, reacted to his message.

There were sections of the Baggies support who urged him to ‘come home’, whilst others think he will leave Vicarage Road now that Watford have been relegated, just like he did with Albion a couple of seasons back.

Given Foster’s age and experience, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him playing Premier League football next term, as he could turn out to be a clever purchase for one of the mid-table sides.

When Villa were promoted to the Premier League last summer, they went out and signed Tom Heaton from Burnley, who despite his season-ending injury in January, turned out to be one of their signings of the season.

Villa and West Brom will face off again next season and it remains to be seen whether Foster will come up against either Midlands duo in the promised land next term.

Here is a selection of West Brom and Villa fans reacting to Foster’s tweet:
