Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told Herald Scotland that he wants to sign Bongani Zungu.

Earlier this week, French publication L’Equipe reported of interest from Rangers in Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu (click here to read more).

The report claimed that the Ibrox club have agreed a fee of €4 million (£3.6 million) with French club Amiens for the transfer of the 27-year-old midfielder.

Gerrard has now stated that he is indeed interested in bringing the South Africa international midfielder to Ibrox this summer.

The Rangers boss told Herald Scotland about Zungu: “We are aware of him. But there is nothing to say on that at the moment.”

Deal edging closer?

With L’Equipe reporting that a fee has been agreed between Rangers and Amiens, it does seem that a transfer is about to happen.

Le 11 Amienois has reported that Zungu will not play for Amiens in their upcoming friendly match against Chambly on Saturday.

This reported development suggests that the South Africa international could be on his way to Rangers soon.

According to WhoScored, the midfielder made 10 starts and 11 substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for Amiens this past season.

Rangers are aiming to stop bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic from winning the Scottish Premiership title for the 10th season in a row in 2020-21.
