If this is true, Arsenal could reportedly pull off one of the biggest bargains of the summer.
According to The Independent, the Gunners could sign Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho for only £9 million.
The report adds that out-of-favour Arsenal midfielder Mateo Guendouzi would have to go the other way in a player-plus-cash deal.
Guendouzi has been frozen out of Mikel Arteta’s plans in North London over apparent attitude problems.
Here’s how Arsenal fans reacted on Twitter to the idea of signing Coutinho – who cost £142 million in 2018 – for as little as £9 million.
In real life, if something’s too good to be true then it’s probably because it is – and the same rule applies in the football world.
Coutinho has had a rough couple of years since leaving Liverpool, struggling at Barcelona and then failing to secure a permanent move to Bayern Munich after being loaned out.
But in terms of talent, he’s frightening and at 28, the Brazil international has a good few years left in him.
This would be an astonishingly-good bit of business by Arsenal, but is it true? Well, time will tell.
