West Ham United need to be active in the transfer market this summer. The Hammers have a very good attack and their midfield was bolstered with the permanent signing of Tomas Soucek earlier this month.
However, their defence remains an issue and David Moyes has to find a solution. The Irons have an ageing Angelo Ogbonna partnered with Issa Diop, who hasn’t quite been as impressive as he was last season.
Fabian Balbuena has barely been used since Moyes’ arrival, which shows the manager’s lack of trust in the Paraguayan. Declan Rice is West Ham’s fourth option at centre-half, but pushing him into defence leaves a massive hole in the centre of the park.
A new central defender is a necessity for West Ham and it looks like they have found one. The Sun claim that Moyes is looking to reunite with Manchester City’s John Stones this summer.
The Englishman was brought to the Premier League by Moyes when he signed Stones for Everton from Barnsley in January 2013.
Stones has had a successful career since Moyes left Everton. The now 26-year-old moved to Manchester City in 2016 where he has been hugely successful, winning eight trophies in four years including two Premier League titles.
The report claims that Arsenal are also interested in signing Stones this summer, but West Ham are leading the chase. The Englishman is reportedly available for just £20 million and Irons fans would take that deal happily:
