Nuno Espirito Santo is a big fan of Paulinho, with the £25 million Braga striker closing in on a sudden move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to AS.

Well, this came out of nowhere.

As recently as two days ago, absolutely no one in Wolverhampton was talking about a 27-year-old centre-forward.

By Thursday evening, however, fans all over the Black Country were scouring Wikipedia for the smallest nugget of information about a man who is expected to become Nuno’s new number nine.

A Bola broke the news, suggesting that Paulinho is nearing a move to the Premier League with Wolves likely to be his destination.

What’s more, the arrival of a late-blooming Primeira Liga ace is likely to mean that Raul Jimenez, Wolves’s 26-goal top scorer, has played his final domestic game in Old Gold.

Jimenez has been linked with Manchester United via the Portuguese press, though AS believe Juventus will be his destination.

It is no secret that Juve are looking to replace the ageing Gonzalo Higuain and, with a deal for Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik hitting the buffers, the Serie A champions have stepped up their chase for a Mexican international – even if their £45 million bid has fallen well short of Wolves’ valuation.

Just to add to the intrigue, AS suggests that Nuno is the man behind the chase for Paulinho.

The former Porto boss is apparently the ‘main supporter’ of a man who fired Braga to a third-place finish and Taca da Liga glory with 25 goals in 2019/20.

Interestingly, Paulinho scored against Wolves in a 3-3 Europa League draw back in November.
