Liverpool and Tottenham supporters provided a mixed reaction after reports emerged that Manchester City have agreed on a deal to sign Nathan Ake.

Sky Sports reported that relegated Bournemouth have accepted a £41 million offer for their centre-back from City, which got several supporters, including those of Liverpool and Spurs, talking.

There were some fans who just simply weren’t surprised that Pep Guardiola was once again splashing the cash, and that on a defender.

Liverpool won the Premier League title in emphatic fashion during the recently concluded campaign, as City’s problems were clear – their defence.

As some fans were critical of the deal, there were others who defended it and think the Dutchman will prove to be a worthy acquisition if any deal goes through.

Some Tottenham fans were even disappointed that they haven’t put the money on the table for Ake given that they need fresh faces in defence for next season and they did just let go of the left-footed Belgian, Jan Vertonghen.

The fact that Ake was relegated with Bournemouth doesn’t help his reputation, but if he does make a switch to the Etihad then he’ll be hoping to put that right.

He is a ball-playing centre-back, added with his pace, he would suit Guardiola’s style and high line, not forgetting that he can operate in a back two, a back three and at left-back.
