According to France Football, Monaco are on track to sign reported Tottenham Hotspur and Everton target Mohamed Simakan in a deal which could be done in 48 hours.
The Strasbourg central defender is seemingly set for a big move this summer.
According to RMC in May, both Everton and Tottenham are heading Premier League interest while clubs from Italy and Spain are also monitoring his progress
But now the Toffees and Spurs are in danger of missing out.
The latest report from France Football claims Monaco are seeking the final agreements on a £13.5 million deal which will see him remain in France.
The 20-year-old will replace Benjamin Henrichs who joined RB Leipzig.
Simakan boasts plenty of potential, but Everton and Spurs may be seeking more experience.
The Toffees endured a pretty poor campaign despite the uplift from Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival. The side conceded too many goals with several players underperforming.
The defence has become an issue. Both Michael Keane and Yerry Mina struggled this past year, and Ancelotti may look at a new top central defender to shake things up.
Spurs, on the other hand, see Jan Vertonghen leave following his contract expiry. With Toby Alderweireld 32 next year, the club need long-term replacements.
But manager Jose Mourinho may see other areas of bigger priority. His side lack an alternative to Harry Kane while the fullback positions need strengthening.
The lack of Champions League football may also hinder Tottenham’s budget.
