The PS5 and Xbox Series X are both scheduled for Holiday 2020 which means they’ll be fiercely fighting for your hard-earned and probably sparse cash. Both consoles look impressive with one resembling a PC while the other a Wi-Fi router, but Valve’s Gabe Newell has emphatically said that the Xbox Series X is better than the PS5. Sony fans have reacted on Twitter with as much resentment as you’d expect, while plenty of others simply want to know why he has this opinion.
As previously mentioned, both consoles appear to be exquisite as they each have impressive specs, loading screen reduced times, great resolutions, and other techno mumbo-jumbo to get people excited. However, more importantly, they each have an impressive line-up of games with Sony promising Spider-Man and Horizon Forbidden West, and Microsoft wielding Fable, Halo Infinite, and Avowed by Obsidian which is rumoured to be larger than Skyrim.
It is difficult for those who aren’t loyal to either Sony or Microsoft to say which console is better, but Gabe Newell isn’t sitting on the fence as he has emphatically declared that the Xbox Series X is superior to the PS5.
Why has Gabe Newell said Xbox Series X is better than PS5?
Gabe Newell said that the Xbox Series X is better than the PS5 on a talkshow in New Zealand.
He didn’t elaborate too much on why he believes the Xbox Series X is better than the PS5, but we can hazard guesses as to why Gabe Newell has this opinion.
As for what the Valve co-founder said, you can find an official quote down below (via PushSquare):
“I don’t have a stake in that race. Obviously, we do most of our development on personal computers, but of the two I would definitely go with an Xbox.”
Gabe Newell didn’t really provide an explanation and we don’t want to put words in his mouth, but it’s probable that he prefers the Xbox Series X because its Microsoft and he’s a PC guy.
In addition to being invested in PC gaming, Forbes also notes that Microsoft’s next-gen approach is more aligned with Valve’s style.
This is because Microsoft’s next-gen approach is about openness, compatibility, and flexibility between Xbox platforms and PC via Xbox Game Pass.
PS5 fans react to Gabel Newell saying Xbox Series X is better
PS5 fans have reacted on Twitter to Gabe Newell saying that the Xbox Series X is better.
There’s about as little fondness and appreciation for Gabe Newell’s comments as you’d expect, but PS5 fans really shouldn’t be worried.
Plenty of other notable figures within the gaming industry have spoken highly about Sony’s next-gen system, and – ultimately – it’s about which games and studios you prefer.
If you like the extreme value that comes with Xbox Game Pass, and prefer IPs such as Halo and Fable, and love Obsidian, then go with Xbox Series X.
But, if you’re enamoured with Sony and their reputation for the best exclusives, then side with them.
Meanwhile, if you’re a PC gamer, you can enjoy games on Xbox Series X thanks to Xbox Game Pass.
