Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed to Football London that Emi Martinez will start the FA Cup final.
Martinez, who barely played under Unai Emery, has impressed in recent weeks at Arsenal, after stepping in for the injured Bernd Leno in goal.
The Argentine stopper was once again in fine form, as Arsenal won 3-2 against Watford yesterday.
The Gunners raced into a 3-0 lead in the fixture, but they were then reliant on Martinez to stop Watford making a comeback.
The 27-year-old produced one simply brilliant save from Danny Welbeck’s flick to ensure that Arsenal took the three points.
And Arteta has already stated that Martinez will now start at Wembley next weekend.
“Emi has earned his place with another brilliant performance again today. When the team needed him he made some fantastic saves,” Arteta said.
“Bernd is still recovering from his injuries so Emi’s the one now.
“In football next week is too much. Let’s hope that he’s available for the game and if that’s the case he will start the final.”
Despite Martinez’s impressive displays, he is actually still being linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer.
The Sun claim that Leeds want Martinez, but whether Arsenal would agree to sell him after his recent run of form remains to be seen.
