According to Sky Sports, Celtic have enquired about a deal to sign West Ham United attacker Albian Ajeti this summer.
It’s claimed that Neil Lennon is looking to add Ajeti to his squad, and first contact has been made to try and lure him to Scotland.
Celtic are open to taking Ajeti on loan or on a permanent basis, but Premier League clubs are also keen to sign him.
West Ham paid £8million to sign Ajeti from Basel last summer, having seen him hit 21 goals and 11 assists last season. His full record for Basel stands at 43 goals and 21 assists in 96 games; a hugely impressive record.
However, Ajeti has yet to score a senior goal for West Ham, and has yet to even start a league game. Since football returned, Ajeti has played just four minutes.
The 23-year-old seems to have little future under David Moyes, but Celtic want to save him and add him to Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Patryk Klimala.
A player who thrived at Basel but struggled after a move to the Premier League? That will sound awfully familiar to Bhoys fans, as it perfectly describes Celtic winger Mohamed Elyounoussi too.
The pair once dazzled together in Switzerland, and could now join forces at Parkhead again if Lennon gets his way.
That could provide Celtic with the same dangerous duo Basel had; in the 2017-18 season, Ajeti and Elyounoussi combined for 30 goals and 22 assists – and Celtic fans would no doubt love to see them reunite if they can produce those numbers.
