Liverpool fans have been left emotional, after it was announced that Curtis Jones would take the number 17 shirt next season.

Jones has been tipped to become Liverpool’s next Steven Gerrard, and the significance of his number change has not been lost on Reds fans.

Gerrard wore the number 17 shirt at Anfield in his younger years, and Jones will now take over that number next campaign.

It should also be noted that Kevin de Bruyne wears the number 17 for Manchester City.

And some Liverpool fans could not resist but to make comparisons between their very own teenaged playmaker and City’s main architect.

Jones’s number change also signifies that he could play a far more prominent role for Jurgen Klopp’s men next season.

Jones has broken into Liverpool’s team this season and his performances have caught the eye.

The teenager has been given a handful of first-team appearances, and managed to really showcase his talents.

Jones could well be in action again before the end of the campaign, with Liverpool facing games against Chelsea and Newcastle United before the season finishes.
