Leigh Griffiths has been making the headlines in recent days, with the Celtic striker missing his team’s pre-season friendly matches in France due to fitness concerns.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon told The Scottish Sun this week that Griffiths is not fit enough to play for his side.

Lennon criticised the Scotland international striker – who joined the Hoops in January 2014 from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £1 million – for being “out of condition” and urged him to get back into the fitness required.

The 29-year-old is a very good and experienced striker who will be looking to play an important role for the Bhoys next season, as the Glasgow giants chase their 10th successive Scottish Premiership title.

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has given his take on the striker’s situation, and so has club legend Sir Kenny Dalglish.

Sutton wrote about Griffiths in The Daily Record: “He’s fighting for his career right now – and not just his Celtic career.

“That’s not me being negative. It’s being realistic. Griffiths has a heck of a job now to get back in favour with his manager and if he is to let it slide now, where does he end up?

“He’s 30-years-old next month. This is a stage where he should be looking after his body more than ever.”

Dalglish wrote about Griffiths in The Sunday Post: “It’s sad to see there has been a wee bit of a fall-out between Celtic and Leigh Griffiths.

“Neil Lennon has made his feelings absolutely clear on the situation on the pre-season tour of France, and the player has been left in no doubt as to where he stands right now.”

The Celtic legend added: “Neil will be hoping for a positive reaction from his player. The ball is very firmly back in Leigh’s court, and everyone will have their eyes on how this develops.”

Need to step up

Griffiths needs to get back into the shape needed, as Celtic need him to be on top of his game.

The former Wolves striker has a lot to offer to the Glasgow giants, and him being ft and ready to get back in action for the start of next season which starts in August is going to be good for everyone concerned.
