Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has contacted Nordi Mukiele as the Premier League champions look to beat Paris Saint-Germain to the signature of the £14 million RB Leipzig defender, according to Le10 Sport.

While the Merseyside giants have missed out on one Leipzig star already this summer, with Timo Werner slipping through their grasp to don the blue of Chelsea instead, signing a 22-year-old Frenchman would at least represent some consolation.

Standing at 6ft 2ins, Mukiele might look like a centre-half, but he has been nothing short of a revelation since adapting to a rampaging right-back role under Julian Nagelsmann.

The former Montpellier youngster has even produced six goals and assists from the wing across 2019/20, helping Leipzig secure their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the very first time.

Considering that Trent Alexander-Arnold and the talented yet untested Neco Williams remain the only natural right-back options at Klopp’s disposal, reports from across the Channel suggest that Liverpool have now set their sights on luring Mukiele to Anfield.

The Reds have been in touch with the £14 million man’s representatives while, according to Le10 Sport, the charismatic Klopp is hoping to use his magnetic personality to seal the deal via a personal phone call with a man also on PSG’s radar.

Mukiele is far from the finished product but that is precisely why he is on Liverpool’s hit list.

The Premier League winners do not sign established superstars but young, hungry footballers with huge potential in their locker, a la Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and even Virgil van Dijk.
