Celtic linked striker Shon Weissman looks increasingly likely to leave Wolfsberger this summer, with teammate Michael Liendl saying ‘goodbye’ to the Austrian league’s Golden Boot winner, while speaking to Krone.

If an Israel international really is departing the Bundesliga high-flyers after just 12 months at the Lavanttal Arena, he is going out on a high.

Weissman outscored every other player in Austria in 2019/20, finishing with 37 goals in 40 games in all competitions and 30 in 31 league fixtures.

Like Munas Dabbur and Erling Haaland before him, it seems only a matter of time now before bullish front man is rewarded with a move abroad.

The Telegraph reported in May that Celtic are keen, identifying Weissman as a potential long-term replacement for the much-admired Odsonne Edouard in Glasgow.

And Liendl, a 34-year-old play-maker who set up many of Weissman’s goals over this season, is fully aware that he might have assisted the Wolfsberger star for the very last time.

“When it comes to the odds (of him leaving), all signs are goodbye, you have to say that,” Liendl admits.

Speaking to Sky Austria a few weeks ago, Wolfsberger president Dietmar Riegler admitted that he would not stop in Weissman’s way if an acceptable offer arrives, although he was reluctant to point out how much he would demand for a man with the Golden Boot trophy on his mantelpiece.
