Season 1 of Labor of Love may have only just concluded on FOX, but fans of the series are already wondering if and when the dating show will return for season 2.
There are some truly bizarre dating shows out there in the world. It’s safe to say that FOX’s Labor of Love, where 15 men compete for the prize of having children with a former bachelor contestant, is up there with the most bizarre ones.
Whilst the series has been criticized by some for “making a competition out of the creation of life”, the show has actually been really entertaining – something any good dating show needs to be.
Season 1 of Labor of Love has just concluded on FOX, but fans are already wondering if and when the series will return for a second instalment.
Labor of Love season 2: Renewal status
- At the time of writing, Labor of Love has not been renewed for a second season, nor has it been officially cancelled by Fox.
It is not uncommon for producers and networks to take their time before announcing a renewal, but in all honesty, we are split 50/50 on whether Fox will renew or cancel Labor of Love.
On the one hand, the show is fairly cheap to produce and if public health is carefully thought-through, could be produced fairly quickly too. Plus, this is FOX at the end of the day, a network that certainly doesn’t lack courage when it comes to original shows. So, if there ever was a network to renew a series like Labor or Love, it would be them.
However, both the ratings and viewership for season 1 of Labor of Love have been surprisingly disappointing. The show premiered at a 0.2 rating with 909,000 viewers and whilst these figures did rise to an average of 0.23 and 920,000, Labor of Love is still the lowest-performing debut series on Fox this season.
We are expecting an official confirmation on the future of Labor of Love in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on this page for updates.
Labor of Love season 2: Release date
- With no information on the future of Labor of Love, we have no idea when a second season of the show could be released.
We think that any potential release date for season 2 (if renewed), would be dependent on public health. Yes, the show doesn’t require open public spaces or large crowds to be produced, but it would still involve complete strangers being in close proximity of one another.
Although, this could be managed if FOX could create some sort of bio-bubble where the contestants could be quarantined as the series is filmed.
If the series is renewed by FOX for a second season and production begins immediately, we could easily see the show return in the latter part of 2020. However, given the current public health issues surrounding live-TV production, a more realistic expectation would be early-2021.
Labor of Love season 2: Contestants
Obviously, with such the very strange yet personal concept, the male and female contestants involved play a massive part of the show. However, with no official confirmation that the series will return for a second season, there is no information on who could be on the show.
If the series is renewed, we can definitely expect to see Kristin Davis return as host, but we won’t know who the female contestant involved is until a formal announcement is made.
Regarding the 15 males competing for the prize of reproducing, they do not have to be celebrities within their own right. Although we did see Matt Kaye and Marcus Lehman in season 1, Kaye a well-known former professional wrestler and Lehman has appeared in another popular show called Survivor.
As always, we will bring you updates on the future of Labor of Love as soon as information is officially confirmed by either the production team or FOX.
