Reported Leeds United and West Brom target Adolfo Gaich has accepted that there are similarities between himself and Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Braut Haaland, while speaking to TYC Sports.
While the barrel-chested Argentine cannot hold a candle to his Norwegian counterpart when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net, Gaich’s physical style and rangy frame mean that comparisons are still being drawn with two old-school number nines.
Former San Lorenzo midfielder Peton likened the 21-year-old to Dortmund’s blonde bomber a matter of weeks ago.
And, when asked to give his own opinion, Gaich can understand why he has been mentioned in the same breath as the ruthless Haaland.
“Haaland is quite similar on the physical side. One of my virtues is my power and I scored many goals for being well positioned (inside the box),” says a targetman nicknamed ‘The Tank’ back home in his native Argentina.
Haaland is not the only striking superstar who Gaich has been likened too, with Robert Lewandowski and Boca Juniors legend Martin Palermo apparently sharing plenty of similarities too.
But Gaich, who has a £13 million release clause in his contract and has been linked with West Brom via TYC, will have to add a ruthless streak to his game if he is to justify such claims.
He’s hit the net just five times in 13 matches for San Lorenzo this season.
But, with fellow Argentine Marcelo Bielsa a big fan of strikers who can lead the line with aggression, occupy defenders and open up spaces for their team-mates, Gaich looks an ideal fit for the number nine role at Leeds United (PassioneInter).
