Of all the characters of Snowpiercer, Wilford has been the one keeping audiences in suspense. Now, the actor has been announced and theories are emerging.

When talking about Snowpiecer, it’s almost impossible not to bring up Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 film of the same name.

The director has amazed with the likes of Parasite, Memories of Murder and Snowpiercer was no different. However, it’s worth noting that it’s an adaptation of Le Transperceneige, a French graphic novel.

When a TV series was announced, some argued that the film didn’t need a remake, but what we actually have is a lengthier adaptation which explores the story more thoroughly.

Developed by Josh Friedman and Graeme Manson, the team have taken their sweet time to establish characters, especially when it comes to Mr. Wilford!

Sean Bean joins Snowpiercer

It has finally been revealed that the one and only Sean Bean will be tackling the role of Mr. Wilford.

Of course, the character is referenced numerous times throughout the first season but the identity of the actor has been a secret. However, fans have long suspected he could be Wilford because it was announced back in October 2019 that he’d be coming aboard; the specifics of the role were kept under wraps.

His involvement in the next season was unveiled in a teaser which premiered after the season 1 finale.

Needless to say, the decision has gone down a treat, but what’s more interesting is the speculation regarding the character…

Snowpiercer: Wilford theories flood Twitter

A number of fans have already flocked to Twitter in the wake of the reveal, offering their interesting thoughts and predictions.

As expected, some jokes have been made too.

Check out a selection of tweets:

Who played him in the film?

  • In Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 film, the character of Mr. Wilford was played by Ed Harris.

The 69-year-old actor has recently impressed TV audiences as the Man in Black on HBO’s Westworld.

However, those who haven’t been tuning into that will know him from a wealth of films, including The Truman Show (Christof), Apollo 13 (Gene Kranz), Appaloosa (Virgil Cole), Pollock (Jackson Pollock), Mother! (Man) and more.

He was terrific in Snowpiercer, so Sean will certainly have some shoes to fill.
