Arteta has been impressed with the performances of the central defender, and has suggested that he wants the Germany international to sign a new contract.
As reported by Goal.com, the 28-year-old is out of contract at the North London outfit in the summer of 2021, with The London Evening Standard reporting that Arsenal paid £35 million to Valencia for him in 2016.
Arteta told Goal.com about Mustafi: “That’s something the club has to address but he knows my opinion.
“I’m really happy with him as you can see. The way he’s playing, how committed he is with everything we’re trying to do, the level in his performance ever three or four days, he’s been really consistent.”
According to WhoScored, Mustafi has made 12 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal so far this season, providing one assist in the process.
The Germany international central defender also scored one goal in seven Europa League games for the Gunners this campaign, according to WhoScored.
During the 2018-19 campaign, the 28-year-old scored two goals in 31 league matches, and scored one goal in six Europa League matches for the North London outfit, according to WhoScored.
Mustafi has been doing well under Arteta, and it would make sense for the Gunners to hand the defender a new contract.
