The trailer for the upcoming UFC 4 title has just been revealed by EA Sports and brings a whole host of new features – here is our trailer breakdown.
Fans of the UFC video games have had to wait over two years for a new title, but a brand-new game has finally been revealed by EA Sports.
Today, July 11, the juggernaut of the gaming industry premiered the reveal trailer for their new MMA title, UFC 4.
The trailer featured the latest fighters, rankings, new fighting mechanics and a whole host of new updates to the previous title – this is our UFC 4 trailer breakdown.
Boxers enter the octagon in UFC 4…
We’ve got to start with the most obvious new feature, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will be in the game as playable characters.
If you had watched the post-fight press conference from UFC 250, you would remember Dana White replying ‘yes’ that Fury would be in the game. However, the inclusion of fellow British heavyweight king Anthony Joshua is a nice surprise too.
Does this mean we will get other boxers added to the UFC roster? Deontay Wilder? Andy Ruiz Jr? Floyd Mayweather? Mike Tyson?
NOTE: Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are only available if you pre-order the game.
The first thing we see in the reveal trailer is the new types of events players can participate in; backyard octagon with Jorge Masvidal and an underground Muay Thai cavern with Israel Adesanya.
We are assuming that these backyard/underground events will be part of the updated career mode – similar to a ‘from-grass-roots’ style emergence to the top of the sport similar to the 2K or FIFA games.
Interestingly, the short clips we see of Gamebred and Stylebender in these environments have them dressed in appropriate attire, e.g. homemade hand wraps, traditional shorts, chains etc. We also briefly see Kimbo Slice fighting, does this mean custom coaches?
New UFC 4 fighters…
This is an update that we all expected, but an important one nonetheless – an updated roster that represents all the fighter’s that are part of the promotion in 2020.
These new fighters include Alexander Volkanowski, Weili Zhang, Dominick Reyes, Petr Yan, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Johnny Walker, Jack Hermansson, Anthony Smith, Calvin Kattar, Kron Gracie, Kai-Kara France, Gregor Gillespie, Vicente Luque, Aspen Ladd and even ‘Funky’ Ben Askren.
Whilst not all of these fighters featured in the reveal trailer, we can confidently say that the following fighters will also be making an appearance in the upcoming game: Blagoy Ivanov, Thiago Santos, Cody Sandhagen, Pedro Munhoz, Sodiq Yusuf, Islam Makhachev, Aleksandar Rakic, Nathaniel Wood, Shane Burgos, Alexandre Pantoja, Tatiana Suarez and Nina Ansaroff, amongst many others.
Again, a fairly obvious update here, but adding the very latest rankings for each division is definitely (as of tonight’s UFC 251 event) is a welcome addition.
Here’s to the hope that EA Sports will keep the rankings updated in accordance with the real promotion so the game doesn’t feel outdated after a couple of months.
UFC 4 cover fighters…
As predicted, the fighters on the front cover of UFC 4 are Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal and Israel ‘The Last Stylebender’ Adesanya.
Let’s be honest, most of us would have predicted these two would have been on the cover – although I would have liked to have seen Amanda Nunes on there too. Although all-in-all, it’s a really nice cover image to use; what do you think?
Last week, behind-the-scenes video footage of the pair in some sort of photoshoot was leaked on social media, with many rightfully assuming this was part of the cover shoot for the new game.
UFC 4 full release date…
UFC 4 is set to release on August 14 on PS4 and Xbox One and on August 7 for EA Access subscribers.
Hopefully, we will get a full trailer and gameplay within the coming weeks (this was just a ‘reveal’ trailer after all).
We will bring you updates on the upcoming UFC 4 title and a full trailer breakdown when the next one drops.
