Paderborn will not stand in the way of reported Newcastle United target Jamilu Collins if he wants to leave the relegated Bundesliga outfit this summer, according to Kicker.
This swashbuckling speedster has already been given the backing of one man with connections to the Tyneside giants – former Super Eagles and Magpies star Celestine Babayaro.
Speaking to FootballLive recently, Babayaro tipped Collins to follow in his footsteps and establish himself as the first-choice left-back for the Nigerian national team.
But if the African giants think they have issues at left-back, spare a thought for Newcastle.
Jetro Willems looked like the solution to an age-old problem before a cruelly-timed injury wrecked his hopes of a permanent move to St James’ Park.
And while Danny Rose might have been a world-leading full-back a few years ago, he most certainly is not any longer.
Collins, who finished bottom of the German top flight this season with a Paderborn side who looked out of their depth from matchday one, would certainly be something of a left-field addition to Steve Bruce’s squad amid claims from Transfermarkt that Newcastle and Fulham are both interested.
But the attack-minded 25-year-old looked every inch a player worthy of the top division last season.
And, with his athleticism and full-blooded style, should adapt to life on English shores fairly easily.
Kicker says that Paderborn, who are under pressure to raise funds, will not stand in Collins’ way if a club like Newcastle comes calling – especially as he has just one year remaining on his contract.
