Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has suggested on Sky Sports that Neco Williams was let down by his teammates last night.
Williams was handed his first Premier League start for Liverpool against Brighton & Hove Albion, but it may not have gone as he was dreaming.
Although Liverpool won 3-1, Williams was taken off at half-time.
And Klopp claims that Liverpool’s players did not do enough to protect the most inexperienced member of their squad, which forced him to make a change.
“I know in football, everybody thinks it’s not good if you take a player off after 45 minutes,” Klopp said.
“He had a yellow card and we didn’t protect him well enough on the left.
“It was his first professional start so I cannot tell him not to tackle. I liked a lot of his stuff, he will learn so there is absolutely no problem.”
Williams is regarded as one of Liverpool’s top talents, and he may well receive more game time between now and the end of the campaign.
Williams can provide cover in either full-back position for Liverpool, and his crossing ability has already caught the eye.
Williams is part of a crop of exciting youngsters currently breaking through at Liverpool, alongside the likes of Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott.
