Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has talked up the ability of Dejan Lovren on Sky Sports, amid rumours that Jurgen Klopp could sell the Croatian this summer.
TeamTalk reported two months ago that Klopp has told Lovren that he will be allowed to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, after struggling to establish a first-team place for himself this term.
Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are all ahead of him in the selection order at Anfield.
But Gomez insists that Lovren is actually a quality player, who he has learnt a lot from.
“I definitely know I’m blessed to be amongst top-quality defenders at the club and not just Virgil – Dejan (Lovren) and Joel (Matip), I’ve learned bits from each of them and a few of the other centre-backs over the years as well,” he said.
If Lovren was to leave Liverpool, Klopp would surely want an experienced centre-back to come in to replace him.
While Liverpool do have Ki Jana Hoever and Sepp van den Berg breaking through, Klopp may want a more proven option to come in to replace Lovren.
Lovren has taken on board some criticism for his performances at Liverpool this season, but has still played his part in their title success.
The 31-year-old has made 15 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, with his most recent game time coming in a 0-0 draw against Everton.
