Everton have emerged in the race to sign Lille striker Victor Osimhen with his move to Napoli far from completed as it stands, according to AreaNapoli.
With one of the hottest and most coveted forwards in Europe seemingly edging closer to joining the Serie A giants in recent days, the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal must have thought that their chance had gone.
Corriere dello Sport claimed on Friday that Coppa Italia champions Napoli were on the verge of sealing a £55 million, £45,000-a-week deal.
But while Lille had given everything the green light, Osimhen himself appears to be stuck on amber.
According to Football Italia, the Nigeria international would prefer to bring his fearsome leap and lethal finishing skills to England instead and, given the choice, would reject Napoli for a Premier League club.
Music to the ears of not just Liverpool but their rivals from the other side of Stanley Park too.
Because, with the race hotting up, reports from Italy suggest that Everton have suddenly thrown their hat into the proverbial ring with Carlo Ancelotti potentially set to snatch Osimhen away from the club who sacked him in the autumn.
Revenge is best served in the transfer market, it seems.
