The Last Of Us Part 2 is arguably the most divisive sequel of all time let alone the most divisive PlayStation 4 exclusive. While Naughty Dog’s sequel has received 10/10 plaudits from many critics, there’s been a vocal backlash from some sectors of the gaming and online community. And, in cohesion with this backlash, some people have accused director Neil Druckmann of self-inserting himself into the game as the controversial character Manny.
With online hate for The Last Of Us Part 2 getting out of control, Naughty Dog have swiftly condemned all harassment and death threats sent to employees and cast members who worked on the game. Laura Bailey recently shared vile messages sent to her on Twitter for playing the role of Abby, but she’s not the only one who’s been targeted by angry people online.
Neil Druckmann has also received abuse and death threats for writing and directing the sequel, as well as because some people still believe he self-inserted himself into the game as the character Manny.
**Spoilers for The Last Of Us Part 2 beyond this point**
Did Neil Druckmann self-insert himself as Manny in The Last Of Us 2?
No, Neil Druckmann did not self-insert himself into The Last Of Us Part 2 as the character Manny.
Manny does resemble Neil Druckmann with the black hair and beard, but The Last Of Us Part 2 character was instead brought to life by Alejo Edda.
As for why the newcomer and Abby’s mate is so controversial, it’s because he spat on Joel’s corpse and told the deceased fan-favourite to burn in hell.
Spitting on Joel’s corpse is the primary reason Manny is so hated, but he also comes across as an arrogant jerk by bragging about sleeping with multiple women and cutting in line to hog burritos.
While he is a cocky and repugnant character, the good news is that he does die thanks to a perfect shot from Tommy.
The Last Of Us Part 2 Neil Druckmann card
While Neil Druckmann didn’t self-insert himself into the game via Manny, he is in The Last Of Us Part 2 as a card.
The Last Of Us Part 2 has many cards for you to optionally collect and one of them has Neil Druckmann cast as a villain.
You can find the item’s description of Doctor Uckmann down below (via Polygon):
“Once a well-respected researcher, Doctor Uckmann’s questionable experiments in the realm of pushing human limits saw him ostracized from the scientific community.
Even the morally-compromised Laurent Foucault of SPARK Laboratories found his work dubious. Undeterred, Uckmann continued his work in secret, creating super-AI to do his bidding and protect his research while he and The New Dogs stage high-tech heists to fund it all.
Constantly moving his lab location so no one can find him, he longs for the day where his subjects will be treated as equals.”
