The SpongeBob Code-Catcher Challenge is taking place on Nickelodeon US from July 6th but how can fans take part and which app will you need?
For decades, TV has been a pretty one-way method of entertainment.
You sit yourself down in front of the screen and soak up a film or your favorite TV show. Easy.
In recent years, however, we’ve started to see more and more ways that TV is becoming increasingly interactive.
Netflix has been pioneers of this with several special episodes where you choose what happens in the story and now Nickelodeon are getting in on the fun.
This comes in the form of Nick’s very own interactive event centred around the much-loved SpongeBob SquarePants.
What is the SpongeBob code-catcher challenge?
Rather than just aimlessly watching cartoons, the SpongeBob Code-Catcher Challenge, the follow-up to June’s SmartyPants Challenge, is a great way of making the much-loved children’s show a more engaging experience.
From July 6th until July 9th, fans tuning in to SpongeBob on Nickelodeon in the US will notice QR codes that pop up throughout the episode, if you scan these using the Screens Up app, you can take part in a series of quizzes and challenges that can help you to win points.
If you get enough points during the week, you’ll win some nice shiny medals. Shame it’s not a year’s supply of Krabby Patties but you won’t find us saying no either way.
How to take part
Taking part in the SpongeBob Code-Catcher Challenge couldn’t be easier.
All you need to do is download Nickelodeon’s Screens Up app for your phone, tune in to SpongeBob Squarepants on Nickelodeon at 1pm PT or 4pm ET and scan away.
Some fans are having issues
While the process may sound simple, some SpongeBob fans are having issues with the challenge.
One fan, who has been having trouble, wrote on Twitter: “The SpongeBob code catcher barely works”
While another added:
Fingers crossed it all works smoothly and don’t forget to tune in to SpongeBob SquarePants at 1pm PT and 4pm ET on Nickelodeon from July 6th to July 9th.
