Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed from September to November, but gamers are willing to be patient thanks to the magnificent experience that appears to be promised. However, while the vast majority of us will be able to enjoy a raunchy game with visual obscenities and full-on nudity, people in Japan will not be able to witness the same brilliant game thanks to Cyberpunk 2077 being heavily censored in the nation.
We know that CD Projekt RED isn’t shying away when it comes to full-on nudity and brutality. While the Witcher 3 had sex scenes and combat with beheadings, Cyberpunk 2077 will have near the same plus genital customisation that even extends to pubic hair.
While the ability to customise every single aspect of your male, female, transgender, or non-binary protagonist from genitals to pubic hair sounds fantastic, it’s a feature that people in Japan probably won’t be able to enjoy thanks to their nation’s version of the game being censored.
Cyberpunk 2077 censorship in Japan
The censorship for Cyberpunk 2077 in Japan is quite extensive despite being cosmetic.
While it doesn’t appear that any missions will or have been removed, the censorship for Cyberpunk 2077 in Japan will greatly alter the game’s aesthetics and aspects of nudity.
Per Press Start, naked male and female characters will be covered up with underwear. Sexually explicit content and cut-scenes will also be revised.
Not only will naked males and females be covered up to protect the people in Japan from seeing nudity, but all graffiti and billboards featuring genitals will be removed or revised as well. We assume this means the Japanese version of the game will not include the ‘controversial’ billboard which was lambasted by some for showing a sexy transgender model with a visible erection.
While most of the censorship concerns nudity, there will also be selective revision for the depiction of wound surfaces and exposed intestines.
And, in regard to the exciting genital customisation, PC Gamer says that it has been removed. Boo!

This means that – as expected – Cyberpunk 2077 will be rated 18 in the UK with zero censorship to detract from the experience.
In more shocking news, Press Start confirms that the Australian version of the game isn’t censored at all.
Rated R18+, Cyberpunk 2077 will not be edited in any way for the people of Australia, which is fantastic news for everyone who wants the authentic experience.
